The episode

  1. The object called finished

A cracked, scorched radio arrives at the Mhlabeni kitchen table. Everyone agrees it is finished — except twelve-year-old Sibusiso.

  2. Looking is not thinking

At Mr Mkhize's repair shop he learns three words that will order his life: power, path, load.

  3. The invisible becomes audible

One cracked joint repaired, and a voice from beyond the hills returns — carrying news of engineers and industry.

  4. The gate

“First become excellent at what is in front of you. Then we will see which gate tries to stop you.” Beneath power, path and load, he writes a fourth word.

  5. Fiction notice
